The Old and the New: Envisioning Peoria History in New Ways

 

Come see original artwork by Peoria area artists at the Peoria Historical Society’s 60th annual Rennick Art Show.

All of the art in this judged exhibit reflects the Peoria Historical Society’s mission to preserve, share, and celebrate the stories of the Peoria area. Each piece visually represents some aspect of Peoria area history and is open to any artist with a Peoria connection.

The exhibit runs May 2-31, Tuesday-Saturday from 10-5pm at the Peoria Riverfront Museum Gilmore Auditorium, 222 SW Washington Street, Peoria, IL.

An Opening Reception will take place on Thursday, May 2 from 5:30-7pm at the museum to recognize the artists and show sponsors, and the prize winners will be announced at this event.

Join us for Gallery Talk on Sunday May 19, from 1-2pm, and join the judge and the public for a tour of the exhibit and insights on the artwork.

Artists will retrieve their work on May 31.

There is no charge to attend this event. Donations and memberships are always welcomed and appreciated!

Peoria Modern: An Era of Unforgettable Optimism

The mid-century modern design and architecture of Peoria will be the focus of a guided Peoria Historical Society bus tour on Friday, May 24. Architect Ed Barry of Farnsworth Group will lead the tour entitled “Peoria Modern • An Era of Unforgettable Optimism” from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

The tour will highlight examples of Peoria’s rich history of mid-century architecture, which emphasized optimism, sleek and simple design, and a connection with nature. It will provide exterior perspectives and commentary on a baker’s dozen of significant local modernist buildings, including private residences and commercial structures designed by Cletis Roy Foley, Richard (Dick) Doyle, Gordon Livezey Tinsman, Leslie (Les) Kenyon, Edward Verkler, John (Jack) Hackler, and others.

The bus tour will depart from Peoria Public Library, 107 N.E. Monroe, and will end at the same location, providing the tour group the opportunity to then have a guided visit of the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation “Selections and Stories” exhibit. Held in the Main Library Gallery, this show will feature a wide selection of architectural drawings of Peoria-area buildings.

Dorann’s music is as hot as ever with new some band members. Many varieties of music are covered: Motown, Oldies, Jazz, Blues, R&B, and Funk all with that special mystical flair. Dorann will get you up on your feet with her amazing infectious energy.

VINCE CARONE, known as the "Bad Father" is fast-talking, frenetic, and frustrated. He has a quick-witted, fast-paced style that envelops you with an avalanche of punchlines that never stop. He has been seen on Comedy Central and TBS, and heard on Mancow in the Morning and WGN. He has released 6 hour-long comedy albums, runs a podcast called "Peek Behind the Curtain", and was the winner of the 2019 “Best of the Midwest” Competition at Gilda’s Laughfest. Admission is $25pp and seating is reserved. The bar will open and seating will begin 1 hour before the show at 7p with the show starting at 8p. The show will last approximately 90 minutes.
