Artists in the Country: Three Generations of Americans at Giverny
Artists in the Country: Three Generations of Americans at Giverny

Artists had worked in the Normandy village of Giverny since the early nineteenth century, but between 1887 and World War I, it blossomed as an international art colony thanks largely to a flood of American artists. Three successive waves of arrivals each pictured the village, its surroundings, and the rural life it supported in distinctive ways that illustrate the evolution of Impressionism in American art. This lecture examines the colorful work and the lives of the Americans in Giverny over a quarter century.

Dr. Greenhouse is a Chicago-based art historian specializing in American art of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She received her BA in History from Yale University, an MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, and her PhD in the History of Art from Yale.

Social time at the Peoria Riverfront Museum begins at 9:30 am with the lecture from 10:00-11:00 am.  Everyone is welcome.
Tickets at the door:  Adults: $12 / Students $5

Cubs Trophy Tour
Cubs Trophy Tour

The Cubs Trophy Tour, presented by State Farm, is coming to Peoria to give fans the opportunity to see and take photos with the 2016 World Series Trophy. The trophy will be at the Peoria Civic Center Ballroom, located on the 4th floor of the facility.

Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 1:30 - 3 p.m.

The Peoria Civic Center is located at 201 S.W. Jefferson Ave, Peoria, IL 61602.  This event is free and open to the public; however, the trophy will be removed from the building around 3 p.m.

The Peoria Civic Center Marquee entrance doors will open at 8 a.m., at which time fans will be allowed inside as capacity allows. Fans wishing to arrive earlier than 8 a.m. are asked to line up outside of the Marquee entrance doors, click here for access map.

The Trophy will be here for a limited time only and thus not everyone in line is guaranteed a chance to see it. The first 500 fans will receive a wristband to ensure their opportunity to view the trophy. Additional fans will be accommodated if time permits.

Fans and visitors can park in the Peoria Civic Center Marquee and Fulton lots at no charge. Overflow parking is available throughout downtown Peoria. Click here for a parking map .  Accessible parking is available in the Peoria Civic Center lots and in surrounding parking decks.

All trophy and event related questions should be referred to Chicago Cubs Fan Services at 1-800-THE-CUBS or 1-888-THE-CUBS. For the full schedule and official Trophy Tour website visit http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/fan_forum/trophy-tour/

What To Expect at the Event:

We appreciate all fans and the time one takes to visit the World Series trophy. Unfortunately, the Trophy can only be in Peoria for a limited time and we cannot guarantee everyone in line will see the trophy. Event hosts will try to keep you informed about your chances to see the Trophy as we see the progress of the line and learn how many fans time will allow.

- Please be patient and courteous to those around you in line.

- Please plan to have everyone from your party wait in line together.

- Public restrooms are available; you may leave your place in line and return if needed.

- Keep all coats, chairs, blankets, purses and other personal belongings with you at all times. The Chicago Cubs or the Peoria Civic Center are NOT responsible for lost items.

Once you are near the Trophy:

- Take off your coat, hat, purse. Anything you do not want in the photo can be handed to a staff person who will bring it to the other side of the room and you can pick it up on your way out.

- Turn your flash off.

- Turn your zoom off.

Thank you in advance for helping to make this historical celebration a success!
