Gumbo Jam
(Lil' Brian and The Zydeco Travelers is) one of the hottest zydeco bands I've ever seen... If I had to pick next year's Macy Gray, this funky band that mixes funk and zydeco would be it...If Prince played zydeco music, this is what might come out. Hip-hop beats with lush accordion and a washboard percussionist. The traditional bayou music never had a jump-start like this Houston band discovered by established New Orleans musician Buckwheat Zydeco. I had the same feeling getting socked in the face with these funky hybrid rhythms at Stubbs club (at SxSW) that I did five years ago, hearing the Fugees' Wyclef Jean at the same place.
