Best of Billie Holiday starring Mardra & Reggie Thomas!
Best of Billie Holiday starring Mardra & Reggie Thomas!

Coming off their triumphant performances in "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill" in Chicago, the Broadway Lounge is thrilled to welcome Mardra & Reggie Thomas to Peoria with their musical tribute show, "The Best of Billie Holliday"!

Cost is $48pp for a buffet dinner and show featuring The Waterhouse Catering's Savory Sliced Pot Roast Au Jus, Boneless Chicken Breast in a Creamy White Wine Sauce with Mushrooms, Party Potatoes, Green Beans with Bacon, Tossed Mixed Greens Salad, Sister Schubert Homemade Dinner Rolls, and Texas Sheetcake for dessert! Seating begins at 6p. Dinner Buffet at 6:30p. Show at 7:30p. The Broadway Lounge's wait staff will provide table service for drinks.

Mardra Thomas is known for her realistic portrayal of Billie Holiday in concert and on the theatrical stage. Costumed in a vintage gown with her signature gardenias, Mardra looks and sings the part of this iconic jazz vocalist. She takes you back to 1959 impersonating Billie Holiday with songs that highlight the era in which she performed including her first big band experiences with world known bandleaders such as Artie Shaw.

Mardra’s voice is well suited to showcase Holiday’s sculptured phrasing that stamped a signature style on jazz singing. She appears in theaters, concert halls and premier clubs all across the country.

Accompanying Mardra will be her husband Reggie Thomas, on piano. He is Coordinator of Jazz Studies at NIU, on faculty for Carnegie Hall’s Jazz National Youth Orchestra and is a member of The Count Basie Orchestra.

Art Reception at The Contemporary Art Center of Peoria
Art Reception at The Contemporary Art Center of Peoria

Art Reception: Saturday, May 21, 2022, 6:30-8:30 pm, free admission, donation requested. Meet the exhibiting artists and view their artwork in three galleries:

Jill King: New Horizons
April 29 - June 17
Preston Jackson Gallery
Like celestial cloud formations, Chicago educator and artist Jill King’s sculptures are energetic three-dimensional gestural ‘drawings’ of twisted metal covered with stretched fiber adorned with ancient symbols. They tackle transformative emotional themes while harnessing the energy of swirling hurricanes or other-worldly flowers possessing bioluminescence.

Mike Baur and John Boylan
April 29 - June 17
Gallery 3R
The sculpture of Chicago based Mike Baur and the 2-D mixed media work of Peorian John Boylan are guided by traditional design principles and an instinct for frankness. Meticulous compositions arise from an infatuation with gritty, abandoned and common objects seemingly combined in casual assembly.
