Intercambio: Empowering Emerging Artists & Young Professionals in the Arts
Intercambio: Empowering Emerging Artists & Young Professionals in the Arts
Arts Intercambio: A Young Professionals Visioning Session
April 24th, Cafe Santa Rosa, Peoria Heights
Doors and Networking 4:30pm; Event 5:30pm-7pm
There is no cost
Register here: https://artspartners.net/april-intercambio/
"Intercambio," meaning "exchange" or “interchange,” will be a relaxed event where emerging arts professionals (either artists or those working within arts organizations) and young professionals throughout the Greater Peoria region gather for a listening and visioning session to discuss ways to enhance collaborations between individuals and organizations/corporations. The goal is to increase and create new art experiences and opportunities for the public in central Illinois. This event is a collaboration between ArtsPartners of Central Illinois and the Peoria Women's Club.
Coffee and snacks will be provided. Other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.
Who this event is for:
For young and emerging artists and arts leaders who want to exchange ideas and share needs; young professionals interested in learning more about Greater Peoria's arts and culture and contributing to the needs of area artists and arts organizations.
Needs addressed:
Greater Peoria has many things to offer — among those offerings are arts and culture. But how do we collaborate? If you're an artist, how do you get outside of the "arts bubble"? If you're an emerging arts leader, how do you connect with potential new patrons? And if you're not involved in the arts, how do you even begin to find ways to become involved? (And why would you want to, anyway?)
The goal:
Identify important objectives and outcomes for growing the presence of arts and culture in Greater Peoria, specifically among young professionals and emerging arts leaders and artists. This could include events, collaborations — or whatever we dream up. We want everyone to leave with new connections that are beneficial professionally and align with your values.
How:
We will have group discussions that will be facilitated by Dr. Mae Gilliland Wright of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois and Lynette Steger of the Peoria Women's Club, all while table leaders facilitate micro-discussions at individual tables.

Wheel 101 Class
Wheel 101 Class
Learn the basics of setting up a pottery wheel to throw, the proper tools needed, how to prepare the clay through a process called "wedging," centering, throwing on the wheel and how to clean up.
We give a demonstration of how to throw a pot. Next, we let you try by yourself for a short period of time. Then we give assistance, as needed, to create your own piece which can literally exist forever (unless it is heated to 2500 fahrenheit:). You get to choose the glaze color of your piece.
This class qualifies a person to attend open studios and work independently.
Materials and firing is covered in the cost for one piece (approximate maximum size-up to 6" tall x 6" width x 6" length).
Everyone keeps one piece. Additional pieces of equivalent size are $5 (covers material and firing costs). These are paid for after the pottery session, if you create more than 1 piece you wish to keep.
Specialty Items are also available for additional cost. These require additional time, material, and firing.
Pieces are kept at the studio for finish work, glazing and two kiln firings, and are picked up at a later date. When finished, everything is food-safe, dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe.
Ages 5+
No experience necessary
Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
Please Fill out the form and submit to register for a Wheel 101 class. If you have a group of people, all paying together, please use one form. If you are coming with others, but paying separately, please fill out separate forms. After you submit the form, you will receive a confirmation email and invoice within a day. When the invoice is paid, your spot will be reserved.
