Behind the Silver Platters of the Dutch Golden Age

04/12/18 10:00AM - 11:00AM

During the seventeenth century, the Dutch became world leaders in international trade. Still-life paintings of costly china and exotic foods reflected the prosperity that the country enjoyed, but they also concealed the true social costs of that prosperity. In this Fine Arts Society program, Dr. Julie Berger Hochstrasser, Professor Emerita of the University of Iowa, will discuss the story behind the opulent art. Social time at 9:30 AM. Program begins at 10:00 AM. Peoria Riverfront Museum, lower-level auditorium. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for students.
