"Nina" and "Pinta" on Peoria's RiverFront

09/16/14, All Day

History buffs have a chance to get up close and personal with some living history. Replicas of Christopher Columbus’s ships the “Nina” and the “Pinta” will be sailing into port on the Peoria Riverfront September 12th through the 22nd.

Both ships tour as part of a “sailing museum” to educate the public and school children about the type of ship Columbus used, the “caravel”.

The “Nina” was built entirely by hand without use of power tools and is considered the most historically accurate replica ever built. The “Pinta” is a slightly larger version of the ship that was recently built in Brazil to accompany the “Nina.”

The ships will be docked at “The Landing” next to The Spirit of Peoria at the foot of Main street. The public can take self-guided tours of the ships every day between 9 and 6. Admission to the ships is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for students age 5 to 16.  Children under 4 are free.
